Top 10 Reasons to Rush AKPsi

By admin at 3:43 am on Tuesday, January 13, 2009

1. We know people. Seriously. Networking is not just the latest buzzword, it means connecting with the people who will be your future business partners, coworkers and clients.

2. Resume development. When it comes to being hired, so much depends on that one piece of paper that’s supposed to sum you up. We hold resume clinics before each campus career fair, and work to develop each other’s resumes all year long.

3. Event planning skills. All our members work as either committee heads or members throughout the year to hold large-scale fundraising events, local business mixers or professional development clinics. There’s something for everyone.

4. Brotherhood. When you join AKPsi, you’re becoming friends with other like-minded individuals who are just as passionate, business-oriented and ambitious as you are.

5. Travel opportunities galore. AKPsi members have opportunities to travel all over the country as individuals and with the chapter. One of our best trips to date was our chapter retreat in San Francisco last year, where we spent the weekend meeting up with our alumni in the business world, touring corporations, and exploring the city.

6. Mentorship program. Ever wished you already knew someone who’s been there, done that and is now ready to show you the ropes? AKPsi Cal Poly’s unique alumni mentorship program does just that: we pair up each member with an alumni from the Cal Poly chapter with similar interests and career aspirations to act as your professional mentor.

7. Academic help. Many of our members boast that their GPA’s go up after joining the fraternity. That’s just one of the many benefits that comes from joining a small network of peers who have similar academic and life goals. We tutor each other, study together… even bypass the bookstore and sell our textbooks to each other.

8. Professionalism. We love this word.

9. Interview practice. For most, the most harrowing part of beginning a new career is the job interview itself. In AKPsi, we work throughout the year to improve our public speaking and interview skills.

10. The fun stuff. We’re not just all work and no play, mind you. In fact, we make quite the effort to live up to our chapter’s motto of “Mixing business with pleasure since 1904…”

Alpha Kappa Psi is the premier, co-ed professional business fraternity

By admin at 10:18 pm on Saturday, August 2, 2008

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about AKPsi and the Pi Rho Chapter! As a professional student organization, AKPsi prides itself on offering its members a unique college experience focused on professional and social development.

Our members are young business-minded men and women who are looking to gain a professional edge at Cal Poly long before graduation.

Throughout the year, our members take on leadership positions and spearhead projects that prepare them for the real world. Whether it be through brainstorming ideas for a several thousand dollar fundraiser, organizing a social mixer with local business owners, or networking with successful alumni, AKPsi’s members undoubtedly gain a professional advantage over their peers long before graduation.

Outside of planning events, Alpha Kappa Psi works to increase the overall professional skills of its members through resume development, interview training, regional conferences, and networking through our alumni mentorship program.

Our personal professional development training is second to none and as a member of Alpha Kappa Psi you are recognized as a professional in whatever industry you may enter after Cal Poly.

If this sounds like the kind of college experience you’d like to have, take some time to look through the rest of our site. Our fall rush is just around the corner, and you can get a full schedule and more information from the Rush tab at the top. General information on our chapter is at the About page, and specific information on our members is available in our Member Directory and on the Executive Board page.
